Step by Step Guide: Pin Comments And Attachments (Data Center)

Accessing Your Project:

  • From the main menu of Jira, navigate to "Projects".

  • In the dropdown options, select "View All Projects".

  • Choose the specific project you wish to use the Pin Comments And Attachments application on.

Integration with Issue Functions:

  • The key functionalities of the application are seamlessly integrated into the issues of your projects upon installation.

Pin Comments Functionality:

  • Step 1: Within a specific issue of your project, go to the "Activity" section, then click on the "Comments" tab.

  • Step 2: Comments are displayed from newest to oldest. Each comment has options below it:

    • "Pin this comment": Instantly adds the comment to the "Pinned Comments" section.

    • "Edit": Allows editing of the comment.

    • "Delete": Removes the comment.

    • "Pin" (native Jira option).

    • Emojis.

  • Step 3: Explore the "Pinned Comments" section:

    • Use color buttons to highlight pinned comments.

    • Copy comment content to the clipboard with a single click.

    • Unpin comments with a single click, while keeping them intact in the "Comments" tab.

Pin Attachments Functionality:

  • Just above the "Activity" > "Comments" section, find the “Attachments” section.

  • Click the "Pin this Attachment" icon below each attachment to prioritize visibility.

  • To remove the pin, click the icon again.

Last Comment Resource:

  • Above the "Details" section at the top of the issue, find the "Last comment" custom field.

  • Provides a quick view of the most recent comment on the issue.

User Permissions Management:

  • Navigate to "Project settings" at the bottom left of the project.

  • Click on "Permissions" and then "Edit Permissions".

  • Customize permissions for comments and attachments, including pinning, editing, and deleting.

Searching for Issues with Pinned Comments using JQL:

  • Return to the main Jira menu and click on "Issues".

  • Choose "Search for issues" from the dropdown.

  • Write your query using JQL search and click "Search".

  • Issues with pinned comments will appear in the search results.
